Ammonites are fossilized Ammonoids, which are an extinct group of marine mollusc animals in the subclass Ammonoidea. Ammonites make excellent index fossils to pinpoint exact geological time periods. The ammonoid cephalopods became extinct along with the dinosaurs at the close of the Cretaceous era.

This matching pair of Ammonite shows a great amount of detail and color throughout the distinct chambers, visible because of the beautifully polished sliced sides. This would make a nice set for display with its unique character, and fantastic for school projects with its intact chamber portions!

Ammonite is a fascinating fossil to study, and it is even believed to carry metaphysical benefits. The spiral shaping is thought to symbolize continual change, and it is thought that because of their great age they have absorbed energy throughout the eons and can be used to stimulate Chi (life-force).
